So, I haven't posted about this yet,¹ but I'll be speaking at SCCA - Singapore Corporate Counsel Association's upcoming Asia Pacific Legal Congress, courtesy of the Singapore Academy of Law. Details in the post below.

The panel discussion will focus on recent developments in employment law. And that's timely, considering:
a) non-compete clauses being in the limelight for various reasons,² and which may well affect many of us on both the professional³ and well as personal⁴ front;
b) the new Workplace Fairness legislation. Principles are important, but practicalities matter equally. We will discuss both;⁵ and
c) the continued relevance of the Employment Claims Tribunal, which can feel like a mysterious and unknown place for employers that are more familiar with the traditional courtroom setting⁶ - and even more so for employees who are not in the habit of getting into disputes with their employers.⁷

And I'm looking forward to be on the panel with Zhao Yang Ng, Jason Chua Dong Wei, and Nicole Evangeline Poh. Between the 4 of us, we have a diverse range of experience that covers multiple perspectives - we have acted for and against, advised on legislation and policy relating to, and adjudicated disputes involving: (deep breath) employers (such as MNCs, blue-chip companies, SMEs, start-ups) and (ex-)employees (such as C-suites, knowledge workers, regulated professionals, entrepreneurs). I expect to learn a ton from my fellow panelists.

So. Come for the congress. Join us at our panel discussion. Have a listen. Ask questions. Laugh at my stupid jokes.⁸ Attend other panels and talks. Say hi to the friends you bump into.⁹ Have a good time. Learn something.¹⁰

See y'all there.

¹ The occasional likes on related posts probably don't count. I've been, uh, busy.¹¹

² In no particular order: Lazada, Shopee, MoneySmart, the upcoming tripartite guidelines, developments in North America, and the list goes on.

³ E.g. if you're in charge of ensuring the enforceability of non-compete clauses that your organisation's employees are subject to. Not an easy job!

⁴ E.g. if you happen to be subject to one.

⁵ I think, and assuming we have the time.

⁶ Although hopefully not TOO familiar.

⁷ Which should be most employees.

⁸ Hopefully. Assuming any are told, and that you find them sufficiently humorous. Not an actionable representation.

⁹ C'mon y'all know how small the industry is. This is sure to happen.

¹⁰ Probably.

¹¹ Some of you will know why.
